The Eagles nesting at portland, pa. are very active. Last nite Dave and I watched as female returned to nest to replace the male. She wasted no time to get him out!!!

Last nites Delaware River Shad Fishermen's Association meeting was a first for me and my
fishing partner Dave. We both joined up and met some of the members. I passed around the pictures of the bald eagle nest at the portland boat launch area. Shadpappy informed all that the boat launch will not open now for the shad season. These two birds will show us all up when it comes to catching shad or any other fish for sure. Knowing "WOO' they will be using his darts on their talon's!!! Go figure.

Dave and I hit the river today looking for an early shad. We went to Portland Power Plant and walked to the discharge. Water was low and clear. 44 degrees above discharge and 48 below. We tried for about 1 and a half hours but nothing. Very little discharge from plant. We then took a ride to the gap to see the peregrines but no luck on seeing them either. There were quite a few anglers on the jersey side at beach. I guess we need some warmer temps and we'll see some action.

Wade Slack hit the Raritin River (south branch) with his fishing partner John for some early fly fishing. Said water was cold esp wading in breathable waters!!!

Well the Osprey's are back at Portland as early as Tuesday the 22nd. The 2 that are back are on the high tower nest across road from the power plant. Saturday the
eagle on the nest was very low, hardly visible. Over head was an osprey really
calling. I'm not sure if this one was last years nester in the eagles nest site. I did not see the other eagle while I was there in the area. On a short trip birding the area we did get to see quite a few Wood ducks. What a beautiful duck esp the males.
Hoping to get out to hear and see the woodcock doing their thing just before dark.
Temp's are going to go up in the 60's this week so i'll be out for shad later part of week. Birdman Dave and I will be slinging the darts for sure. Mabe some walleye
fishing also...

Flood waters again for the Big D. I took a ride to Easton and then to Portland to see the effects of all the rain we had. The River is nasty. When will it ever stop.
Up in New York at the Salmon river same thing. Friends were up for 3 days and said river was way up because of hard rain.
4-14-04 The shad arrived in portland BIG time...I went 10 for 14 from 5:45pm to 7:28pm!!!!! Time to go Shad Fishing!!!!

4-19-2005 The Portland Bald Eagles have two young. Nice to see them tonite. Shad fishing has been good upto tonite.
Need a little rain.
